World Read Aloud Day

Have you heard of World Read Aloud Day?? If not, I encourage all classrooms to take a part in this global read aloud movement. This is also a great time to incorporate global awareness activities with your students to get them thinking about the world around them and learn about different cultures. This year, World Read Aloud Day takes place February 1st and thousands of classrooms and organizations will read aloud and share their love for reading with others.

How can your students participate in #WorldReadAloudDay 2019?

  • Partner with another school, classroom or grade level to read aloud to each other.

  • Invite a district or school administrator to read aloud to your class.

  • Invite authors to your classroom to read aloud their books to your class using Skype for Classroom! It's FREE!!!

  • Check out KidLit TV for some amazing read alouds online. This site also includes activities you can do with your students.

  • Have students choose a book to read aloud to a partner using Epic, Big Universe, or RAZ Kids.

  • Follow @LitWorldsays on Twitter to get more ideas and resources. Check out their website.

  • Share pictures and videos of your students reading aloud on our Hurley's FB page or Twitter @HurleyElem.

  • Celebrate at home- students can record themselves reading at home with a parent, sibling, or even their pet. Have parents submit videos on ClassDojo or Hurley's FB page.

  • Do you love Harry Potter books?!? Keep the WRAD momentum going by celebrating Harry Potter Book Night on Thursday February 7th, when fans around the world celebrate the much-loved books by J.K. Rowling.
